This policy describes how EatAlyze (“the app,” “we,” “our”) handles information when you use it.
Information We Collect
Profile information you provide: When you set up EatAlyze, you may enter your name, age, gender, height, weight, ethnicity, dietary restrictions, health goals, and health conditions. This information is used solely to personalize the nutrient targets, meal suggestions, and AI responses you receive within the app. You may also add an email address to your profile; this is optional, stays on your device and is sent only when you share a recipe (see Recipes Market Place below).
Food and nutrition data you log: Foods, nutrients, and diary entries you add or scan (via barcode or photo) are stored so the app can track your nutrition over time.
How Your Data Is Stored
All of the data described above — your profile, food diary, and nutrient history — is stored locally on your device in a private database. We do not keep a copy of it on any server, and we do not have access to it ourselves. The only exceptions are a recipe or food you choose to share, a food you ask us to add, and the names of foods you look up on the GapPlate website (see Recipes Market Place and Foods from the GapPlate website below).
Third-Party Services
EatAlyze uses the following third-party services to provide its features:
- Google Gemini API: To generate personalized nutrition information, meal advice, and answer your questions, the app sends relevant data to Google’s Gemini API. This may include food or nutrient names you’re asking about, and profile details (such as age, gender, health conditions, restrictions, and goals) needed to personalize the response. This data is transmitted directly from your device to Google’s API using your own API key (see below) and is subject to Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Open Food Facts: When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts database (openfoodfacts.org) to look up product information. No other data is sent as part of this lookup.
AI can make mistakes. AI answers, estimates and suggestions (including nutrient values, targets, cooked weights and recipe descriptions) can be wrong or out of date. Check anything important, and talk to a doctor or a registered dietitian before making health decisions. EatAlyze is a nutrition-tracking tool, not medical advice.
Recipes Market Place
Browsing and adding recipes. When you search or open recipes on the Recipes Market Place from the app, it sends only your search words and the recipe you open to the GapPlate Recipes website; your profile, diary and health information are never sent. A recipe you add to your foods is copied to your device. Recipes are not checked for accuracy or safety, so check the ingredients for your own allergies and diet; nutrition shown for a recipe is an estimate.
Sharing a recipe. If you choose to share a recipe from the app, the recipe and the email you give with it (and your name, if you agree to show it) are sent to the GapPlate Recipes website. How the website uses and keeps them is explained in the GapPlate Recipes Privacy Policy.
Foods from the GapPlate website
When you search the GapPlate online library, add a food from it, or add a food that isn’t on your phone, the app sends the food name or your search words to the GapPlate website. If you use your own AI key and a new food isn’t in any library, its name (only the name) is sent too, so it can be added for everyone. If you ask us to add a food, or share a food you added, the app sends the food’s name, its details and nutrient values when you share it, your note, and your email if you give one; your email is used only to tell you when the food is in, or why it couldn’t be added. Your profile, diary and health information are never sent.
Your API Key
EatAlyze requires you to provide your own Google Gemini API key to use its AI features. This key is stored securely on your device and is used only to authenticate the app’s requests to Google’s API on your behalf. We never see or have access to your API key.
What We Don’t Do
- We do not sell your data to anyone.
- We do not show ads or use advertising SDKs.
- We do not use analytics or tracking services.
- We do not send your profile, diary or health information to any server we operate. Only a recipe or food you choose to share or ask for (and the email you give with it), and the names of foods you look up, go to our website.
Sending Feedback or Crash Reports
If you choose to send feedback or a crash report from within the app, this opens your device’s own email app with a pre-filled message. Sending it is entirely optional and under your control — nothing is sent automatically.
Deleting Your Data
Because all data is stored locally on your device, uninstalling the app permanently deletes your profile, food diary, and all logged data, unless you have created a backup yourself using the app’s backup feature. Recipes you shared stay on the Recipes Market Place until you hide or delete them on My recipes.
Children’s Privacy
EatAlyze is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
