Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need my own API key? Yes. Eatalyze uses Google’s Gemini AI to personalize your nutrition tracking and answer your questions, so you’ll need to provide your own free Gemini API key when you first set up the app. You can get one at ai.google.dev. You can also find a link from within the app’s Settings page.
Is my data private? Yes — your profile and food diary are stored locally on your device, not on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can I back up my data? Yes. Go to Settings > Backup Data to save a copy of your foods, nutrients, and diary entries to a file you can keep or move to a new device.
The app says AI isn’t available — what do I do? This usually means your API key needs attention, or Google’s servers are temporarily busy. You can keep using the app normally in the meantime — anything that couldn’t be filled in by AI will catch up automatically once it’s available again.
