Fibre rises quickly when plates tilt toward plants

1–2 minutes

Plant-forward plates tend to carry more dietary fibre than plates built on refined starch and animal foods alone. Lentils, beans, oats, fruit with skins, vegetables, nuts and seeds are the usual sources.

Australian adults are encouraged to reach a fibre intake well above what many packaged-food weeks deliver. Moving too fast can be uncomfortable. Water and a gradual change in portion size matter as much as the slogan “eat more plants.”

A diary that lists legumes and wholegrains by name shows whether fibre is habitual or occasional.
