Iodine supports thyroid hormone production. Seafood and dairy contribute in mixed diets. Vegan patterns, and some vegetarian patterns that skip those foods, lean on iodised salt and selected fortified products.
Seaweed iodine varies widely between species and servings; it is not a precise measuring spoon. Most household cooking salt in Australia can be chosen in an iodised form. People with thyroid disease should follow their clinician, not a general article.
Checking whether iodised salt or a fortified food actually appears in the week is more useful than assuming the ocean is on the plate.
