Vitamin B12 is made by microorganisms. It is stored in animal foods. Unfortified plants are not a reliable source. People who eat little or no animal food therefore look to fortified plant milks, fortified yeast flakes, some meat alternatives, or a supplement advised by a clinician.
Needs vary with age. Absorption can fall later in life even when intake looks adequate on paper. A diary that lists fortified products by name is more useful than assuming “plant-based” equals “covered.”
This is context, not a treatment plan. Anyone with symptoms or a diagnosed deficiency should follow clinical advice.
